WSHS Stuco - Veterans Memorial

Memorial

Dear Community Member,

I’m writing this letter on behalf of the West Shamokin High School STUCO.  We are so proud of our community and the example they set for us as we go through life, especially our veterans here. We want to show our appreciation for the veterans in our community and that is why we’ve decided to design a monument to be placed on campus.

This monument (draft enclosed) will be outside of our school for anyone to visit. It will include emblems of all branches of the armed forces. The monument will be a granite piece in the shape of our state, Pennsylvania, honoring all our veterans here in the Commonwealth. It will be surrounded by a brick pathway, along with a sitting wall that students can use if they are waiting for rides after practice, going to watch a game, or for any other reason.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 for this project.  We currently have two local contractors, First Impression Landscape and Carson Boyer Funeral Home, offering to donate labor and much of the material at cost.  However, we will still have many expenditures, including the cost of the monument itself. Any contribution from you would help greatly and go directly towards making this monument a reality. If you feel you would like to donate, you can submit your donation to: “WSHS STUCO- Veterans Memorial.  Your donation can be dropped off at or mailed to West Shamokin Jr./Sr. High School, 178 Wolf Drive, Rural Valley, PA  16249.

We will also be selling brick engravings later this spring that will be placed in the walkway area leading up to the monument. Families can purchase these bricks with their loved ones' names to be part of the memorial.

We have started other fundraising initiatives and are planning more, but wanted to contact our local community stakeholders for your support if you feel that you would like to be a part of this. We are planning on starting the build February 2023 and hope to reveal it on Veterans Day 2023.  We’d like to thank you for being a part of this community and giving us the ability to be able to appreciate our Veterans. Any contribution you would like to make is greatly and truly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and support,
